Fanfic Communities

Like most people, I used to think that the fan fiction community was a rather strange place. I avoided for that reason.

Then I accidentally got roped in. I wasn't looking for fanfic. I was actually looking online for crossover artwork between two things I liked. Google ended up recommending me a crossover story between what I was looking for. Out of mere curiosity, I checked it out.

I don't remember what the story was, or what it was about, but I do remember loving it. I fell in love with the idea of being able to mess with established canon, or being able to mix together different canons that I had enjoyed.

Since reading that first story, I went on to read a lot more of them. Even so, I didn't feel the need to make an account for a while. When I did, I made it just for the sake of it, not taking it so seriously. I only stick around in case I find a good story to read. Which admittedly, can hard to do. Even other people I know that read fanfics admit that only about 10% is well-written.

Either way, I do enjoy leaving reviews for stories I like. I enjoy being able to give some suggestions, and have something to read if I can find it.

How Weird Can We Get?

HOW WEIRD CAN WE GET? If one were to subscribe to the DC Comics Streaming Service, one of the original series one could see is one called Doom Patrol. It is a superhero show, but it is also a very weird show. Let's start with the premise. The main characters are a man's brain in a robot body, a scarred and bandaged man with an alien spirit living in him, a woman who turns into goo when she feels negative emotions, and a girl with 64 split personalities, each with their own powers. The main villain is a fourth-wall-breaking jokester who controls plot and narration. These are just the characters. In the show itself, things get weirder. The first episode ends with a donkey farting a message into the sky . Episode seven has a rat hijacking a robot to avenge his mother. Episode 13 has an army of man-eating butts (I'm not kidding). Transmedia Storytelling Transmedia storytelling has become one of my favorite methods of storytelling in recent years. With the meteoric rise of popularity of properties such as the MCU, it's also an easy method of storytelling to spot. But one of the best things about transmedia is how it affects consumers. For one thing, it has allowed for deeper connections for fans with the stories they love. If a fan isn't satisfied simply by seeing a movie, then they have other options. They can find a video game to play, a comic to read, or a sequel to continue the story. Another good thing about transmedia storytelling is that it gives fan the inspiration to make their own content. If you look on Youtube, it's not hard to find a fan video of some sort. There are also parodies and sketches fans make to display their favorite stories in different ways. Fake News Law

Fake News Law The law that was adopted in Singapore would likely never be able to pass in the U.S. There are quite a few reasons why. The most obvious reason being that Americans love their Free Speech. The First Amendment gives people the right to say what they want, and some people love talking. To make a change this drastic would only serve to gain the ire of the people. Now, that doesn't mean it's impossible to have something be done about fake news. I just think that that responsibility would have to fall into the hands of the tech companies. The government can't really do anything without making it look like free speech infringement. So companies can try to find ways to prevent fake news from entering their sites. Google has algorithms meant to modify their site for their users. May be they can make algorithms that detect and remove inaccurate news. Facebook or Bing could try doing the same. Fake news is a serious issue. One in need of a serious ...
