Fanfic Experience

Fanfic Communities Like most people, I used to think that the fan fiction community was a rather strange place. I avoided for that reason. Then I accidentally got roped in. I wasn't looking for fanfic. I was actually looking online for crossover artwork between two things I liked. Google ended up recommending me a crossover story between what I was looking for. Out of mere curiosity, I checked it out.  I don't remember what the story was, or what it was about, but I do remember loving it. I fell in love with the idea of being able to mess with established canon, or being able to mix together different canons that I had enjoyed.  Since reading that first story, I went on to read a lot more of them. Even so, I didn't feel the need to make an account for a while. When I did, I made it just for the sake of it, not taking it so seriously. I only stick around in case I find a good story to read. Which admittedly, can hard to do. Even other people I know that read ...

Trump and College Speech

Trump Signs executive order on college speech.  For people who are dedicated to protecting free speech, this is probably great news. Personally, I am actually comfortable with this decision. Free speech is something that matters to me, and it is one of the fundamental components of American government. I tend to get uncomfortable when people try to limit speech, because that can lead to opinions being lost and viewpoints being ignored. In a democracy, differing opinions help to ensure that everyone gets a voice, and not just one getting benefits. College is an area in which young people are often first exposed to new viewpoints and greater opportunities to speak out. Limiting their ability to do so would be detrimental to their ability to speak out later in life. So, as I said before, I support this order. I will admit though, I find it ironic that Trump is the one signing the order. Considering his history with the press and news outlets, I never expected him to g...

Lord Google

It is clear without a doubt that Google is the primary search engine in America. The default term in America for searching something up online is 'googling' something. Very few people 'bing' things. Even fewer people (myself included) know about any other search engines aside from these two. I have only recently become aware of sites such as DuckDuckGo, Wiki.com, or CC Search. Because of Google's popularity and tight grip online, some people might call it a monopoly. That might be a positive or negative thing.  On the negative side, the amount of power Google has will certainly make it harder for smaller businesses to be able to become successful online. Many possible search engines may just become one of many sites to never turn a profit, even after years. Although for some, that may not be an issue. Google has become successful because of how easy it is to use. And it has made the gathering of information so much easier than it has ever been. To...

Fred First Response

I have to say, I found myself agreeing with Fred throughout this blog post. Especially when he explains why he started his blog, Fragments From Floyd . As someone who has experienced wanting to leave an unhappy workplace, I can relate to his struggle at that time completely. As for the reasons why he started blogging, his reasons make sense to me. His blog allowed him to express himself in a new way, the fact that he could immediately have his writing published for the world to see. In fact, his first post (titled Summer Lightning ) was about him releasing his pent up frustration with his 'professional peers'. From there, his blog has served him well. His blog also allows him release his personal opinions on the environment and the world, as well as his own personal family life. It has been useful for him. I had a similar experience when I made my blog for a class. It was a movie review blog, and it allowed me to release my personal opinion to the internet. My experience ...
